#1 CMS pages vs. static pages

CMS Pages are native to the October core and are available as soon as October has been installed. Static Pages require the RainLab.Pages plugin to be installed. It’s the most popular plugin on the platform and something we install by default on every site we build. Make sure you have the plugin installed so that you can use either.

A shortlist of features to help you decide.

Static Page features and benefits

  • Non technical users are kept away from code
  • Site user interaction cannot damage the coded page output
  • A clean and user friendly interface for managing pages and subpages
  • Intuitive and simple management for the main, footer, and sidebar navigation menus
  • Easy multilingual content additions with structured fields for content translation. Untranslated content is automatically displayed in the default language

CMS Page features and benefits

  • The page code is displayed and can be updated in the CMS if required
  • Suitable for dynamic page displays (for example the page you are viewing now)
  • Support for dynamic parameters from the page URL - ie :slug
  • Page content blocks are connected with a model
  • Allows developers to quickly configure data driven page displays such as Blogs, E-commerce, etc.
